What a Consulting CV Needs in the Middle East

Getting your CV right for the GCC consulting market is harder than it looks. McKinsey, BCG, and Bain offices in Dubai and Riyadh receive hundreds of applications for each cohort. The first filter is not a human — it is a recruiter spending fewer than 30 seconds on each page, and increasingly, an automated screening tool. Your CV must pass both.

The fundamentals are the same as anywhere: one page, action verbs, quantified impact. But regional nuances matter. GCC consulting partners weight regional market exposure heavily — they want to see that you understand the business environment in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, or Qatar, not just that you are academically qualified. If you have worked on government projects, managed teams in the region, or have language skills in Arabic, this needs to be front and centre.

Sector positioning also differs by market. In Saudi Arabia, experience adjacent to Vision 2030 themes (energy transition, tourism, logistics, public sector reform) is valued. In the UAE, financial services, real estate, and tech clients dominate. In Qatar, sovereign wealth, infrastructure, and sports-related projects feature prominently. We tailor your CV framing to the offices you are targeting.

Beyond content, format discipline matters more than most candidates expect. Inconsistent bullet lengths, orphaned lines, wrong font sizing, and a poorly structured education section are all silent rejection signals. An experienced eye catches these immediately; a recruiter who sees 200 CVs a day notices them in seconds.

Common Mistakes GCC Candidates Make

Across the CVs we have reviewed from GCC-based candidates, the same patterns appear. Listing responsibilities instead of achievements is the most common. Recruiters do not need to know that you were "responsible for financial analysis" — they want to know you "built a 5-year financial model that informed a $200M capital allocation decision."

Weak or absent quantification is the second issue. Every substantive bullet point should answer: how large, how many, by how much, over what timeframe? If you have never thought in these terms, we help you excavate the numbers from your experience — they are almost always there.

Regional candidates also often over-format CVs with tables, columns, and heavy design elements. MBB recruiters prefer clean, scannable, text-forward CVs. Design-heavy templates also tend to fail ATS parsing. We strip unnecessary decoration and structure the content so it reads clearly both for humans and for automated systems.

Frequently Asked Questions

MBB and top consulting firms in the GCC expect a one-page CV (two pages maximum for candidates with 7+ years of experience). The format is impact-first: each bullet should quantify a result. Photo, nationality, and date of birth are commonly included for regional submissions — we advise on a case-by-case basis depending on the firm and country.

Regional firms care more about market exposure (do you understand the Saudi, UAE, or Qatari business environment?) and language skills. Some firms, especially those with government clients, will actively look for Arabic proficiency. We tailor your CV to highlight the credentials that matter for GCC offices specifically.

Most of our clients are making the transition from finance, government, energy, tech, or academia. We help you reframe industry experience using consulting language — isolating the analytical, project-based, and client-facing elements of your career that MBB interviewers recognise and value.

You receive written, line-by-line feedback within 48 hours of submission. We then schedule a 30-minute call to walk through the edits together and answer your questions. Most clients send a revised draft within a week; a second-pass review is included.

Yes. Cover letters matter more for some GCC offices than others. We review and rewrite if needed, with specific attention to the "why this office" and "why consulting now" sections that interviewers read carefully.
